This
blank page is more intimidating than the expanse of white when I'm chewing the
end of a pen, searching for the next word of a poem. But the only cure for that
is simply to dive right in.....
so here
goes.
Tonight
America votes to decide who is their next President...Donald Trump...or Hillary
Clinton.
I've no
intention of writing anything about this contest. We'll know soon enough. And
at least I'll never forget the date of beginning this blog!
I'm going
to play safe for now and just say a little bit more about a couple of writing
events coming up for me...the dates are on the Events section.
First is
the Mirrorball night on Thursday 17th November, 2016, 7pm to 9pm in the Club
Room at the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Sauchiehall St, Glasgow. I'm reading,
along with Liz Lochhead and Bill Manhire. I cannot tell you how pleased I am to
be reading in such company.
And next
is Tinsel Tales, the Christmas Open Mic organised by the Federation of Writers
(Scotland), 2pm to 6.30pm in the GoMA Library, Queen St, Glasgow, Thursday 15th
December 2016. Yes...it's a bit of a reading marathon! Great fun. Folk
dip in for how ever long they fancy...and the cafe does excellent...and
cheap...food all day.
If you
write, or are interested in writing...I recommend that you join the Federation
of Writers. It's completely free and gives loads of information about events
and competitions. There's a monthly email newsletter.
You'll
notice on the Events section that I already have some reading events organised
in Wales for July 2017, along with fellow Red Squirrel Press poet David
Costello. How exciting is this!
A poetry
tour of south Wales. Can't wait.
Okay.
That was painless! Relatively. Next instalment coming soon.
